Three Musketeers: Stanced Edition
Photos taken by John Raji
Looking back on my trip to Empower Field in Colorado, I’ve never seen such a clear example of the phrase “going 3 for 3.” The chemistry of these three cars is borderline harmonic, and the environment they were placed in only did them favors.
I spent a long time thinking about why this spectacle made me speechless for a while, and I think the answer boils down to the quality of each car and the way they were ornamentally placed in their surroundings. The way the lighter cars were on either edge and the light shining in from above really enhanced the aesthetic appeal.
The first car in this lineup is this beautiful Toyota Celsior. The stance on this car is absolutely nuts, it really demonstrates how to tuck your wheels and have it look good. Another, major thing about this car is its aftermarket body kit. As a lover of boxy 90s JDM cars, the way this body kit amplifies that specific aspect makes me entranced, this is definitely my automotive fashion pick.
On the other end of the spectrum is the BMW E36. Similar to the Celsior, this car has an aftermarket body kit that aims to enhance the car’s aesthetic strong points. Another thing to mention about this car is the fact that it’s missing the glass for one of its headlights to help support the cold air intake. Overall, I find this car to be the most aggressive-looking.
In the middle of both of those glories is this Nissan Skyline R33. While it may not be the GT-R version, this car still looks very stunning. Compared to the other two, this car does not have as much done to it. Not that having fewer mods is necessarily a bad thing. I will always preach that simplicity is king, at least on the aesthetics side. I’d wager a bet that this car has had more done to it aside from the modified suspension and exhaust. So never judge a book by its cover.
You might’ve spotted this car in one of the previous photos, and I just had to include it. I’m personally not a fan of the RX-8, but I’m beginning to think that I felt that way because I’ve never seen it done justice. Controversial as this car may be, this particular rendition is done spectacularly well. From the ultra-deep dish rims to the widebody kit and carbon fiber hood, this car has done positive PR for RX-8s in my eyes.
After seeing all of these cars in such close proximity at the Empower Field meet held by DownToEarth, I have to say that it will become a favorite of mine. I’m excited to see what next year has in store.
